The China-International Renewable Energy Agency Cooperation Steering Committee meeting was successfully held.

On the morning of October 28, the China-International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Cooperation Steering Committee meeting was held in Beijing. Zhang Jianhua, Director of the National Energy Administration, and Francesco La Camera, Director-General of IRENA, attended the meeting. Representatives from the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the China-IRENA Cooperation Office, and the leading units of five special working groups on energy transition, hydropower, solar energy, hydrogen energy, and power grids participated in the meeting. The parties engaged in in-depth discussions on how to better promote cooperation between China and IRENA and achieved fruitful results.

Zhang Jianhua pointed out that in recent years, strengthening energy security and accelerating energy transition have become a common consensus in the international community. Countries around the world are promoting a green and low-carbon energy transition with unprecedented efforts. China and IRENA share a common historical mission to promote energy transition and achieve sustainable development. It is necessary to advance global renewable energy development through closer cooperation. Since 2023, both sides have jointly established a cooperation framework of '1+1+N', which includes a steering committee, a cooperation office, and multiple special working groups, creating a more efficient and mutually beneficial cooperation pattern. In the next step, China will increase investment to help IRENA continue to grow and deepen cooperation, jointly creating a global energy transition cooperation platform to support the achievement of global renewable energy ambitions.

La Camera stated that the urgency of global climate change response is becoming increasingly prominent, requiring all parties to work together to address risks and challenges. With excellent renewable energy technologies and solutions, China continues to lead the global energy transition pace and makes positive contributions to achieving goals through practical actions. IRENA hopes that China will share its development experience with other member countries and is willing to further strengthen cooperation with China to establish closer ties and jointly shape the future of their cooperation.

During the meeting, Director Zhang Jianhua and Director-General La Camera jointly signed the 'Memorandum of Understanding between the National Energy Administration of China and the International Renewable Energy Agency on Seconding Officials to IRENA'. The meeting also approved the 'China-International Renewable Energy Agency Cooperation Work Plan for 2024-2026', demonstrating both sides' firm determination to work hand in hand and pragmatically promote the implementation of cooperation results.

Ren Jingdong, Deputy Director of the National Energy Administration, attended and presided over the meeting. Main responsible comrades from the Planning Department, New Energy Department, International Department, Party Committee (Human Resources Department), and Qualification Center also participated in the meeting.
